Just as bad weather tore through the northwest the prior day, Manchester City blew the visitors aside at the Etihad Stadium. It was a convincing 3-0 triumph for Andrée Jeglertz’s side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that clearly signaled their title credentials as they consolidated their position at the league summit.

Successive Setbacks for United

This outcome signalled back-to-back WSL defeats for the United manager's side for the initial occasion since spring 2024, leaving them a significant margin off the top team with their championship aspirations severely dented.

United’s ability to juggle league and European soccer with a thin roster has been a widely debated issue since they qualified for the UCL.
