Presence
The acclaimed director pushes his directorial skills with this nifty ghostly tale filmed completely from the viewpoint of the spirit. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe moves into their fresh home, the lens – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. The teen shows signs of conscious of the ghostly being, and it seems protective of her. However, the motive remains? The premise is enjoyable that doesn't outstay its welcome, including a revelation that could catch you off guard. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, the Sky channel
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
The iconic actor embraces his eccentric image through this meta comedy caper. He portrays a self-obsessed Hollywood actor named Nicolas Cage who agrees to a million-dollar gig to attend a festive event at a Mediterranean location for billionaire Javi Gutierrez. Recruited by government spies to spy on the potential kingpin, his unique performing skills is put to the test. October 11th, 9pm, Channel 4
The Black Phone
The director's locked-room horror stands strong despite the lack of a sequel. Located in the late 70s in Denver, multiple child abductions has left the local kids anxious. After Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and held captive in a basement, he fears a fatal end. But the disconnected phone on the wall keeps ringing, with eerie communicators giving advice, while the intuitive nightmares from his sibling Gwen may be his salvation. An effective horror. October 11th, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for greed in this director's delightfully tacky biopic regarding the shamed televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the greedy Jim, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye begin capitalizing on the people's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, though Jessica Chastain manages to present the character in a likable light. Next Tuesday, late night, Film4
This Espionage Thriller
The current week's another release by the same director presents a espionage tale as sharp like the turtlenecks used by Michael Fassbender's UK spy. His assignment is to identify a double agent inside the organization out of five possibilities – one of whom is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. Both actors excel of understated style, so a delicious mind game of deception or honesty develops. The supporting cast join in the intelligent intelligence fun. October 17th, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema
