Watkins Maintains the Advantage - However Calvert-Lewin Could Yet Secure the World Cup

Only one goal in his initial ten English top division games this season had plenty of wondering if Dominic Calvert-Lewin's best days were over.

But, a only four weeks on, he stands as the most discussed attacker in England following netting 7 goals in 6 consecutive games.

His latest finish, in a 1-1 draw against Sunderland, elevated his tally to eight, seeing him become the top English goalscorer in the Premier League this term.

A Stunning Resurgence

The 28-year-old moved to Leeds United on a Bosman move in the summer, after a nine-year stint with Everton that was hampered by fitness issues in its final stages.

Yet, the data underpinning his resurgence in Daniel Farke's new counter-attacking 3-5-2 setup are extremely impressive.

His six-game scoring sequence puts him in prestigious company as only the 11th English player to score in six or more consecutive Premier League outings.

To put that into perspective, even England captain Harry Kane never managed a run lasting this many games - his best remains two distinct five-match runs.

And the only English striker to outdo Calvert-Lewin in the modern era is Jamie Vardy, who went on an eight-game scoring run for Leicester City in 2019.
